Halswell Community Market

Why a Halswell Market?

Our Markets, held on the 4th Sunday of the month (except December) from 12 noon - 3.00pm, provide a venue for local clubs, schools and businesses to highlight their activities and to fundraise.

This is a real community event with a variety of stalls offering handmade crafts, local produce and amazing food.  Families come along and enjoy time listening to the many talented musicians who busk at the market, and enjoy some food, an icecream, and a coffee in the lovely gardens at St John of God Hospital in Nash Road.

As a non-commercial market, stall rental goes towards advertising, running costs, a donations to the School and the Hospital who host the market. Any surplus will be used by the Halswell Community Project to develop the market and in the future we hope to support other community events and activities.

Getting There

There are lovely walking routes across Aidanfield and through from Canterbury Park via the Heritage Walk.  It takes 10 surprisingly easy minutes to walk from the carpark at the end of Augustine Drive through to the Market through lovely parkland and trees.   Likewise from most places in Aidanfield it is less than 10 minutes walk to the market and much of it can be done through parks and very quiet streets.

The Number 60 bus goes past the entrance to the Market along Aidanfield Drive and the Orange line passes the end of Aidanfield Drive and it is a 5-7 minute walk from there into the market.

We also highly recommend cycling.  You can bike from anywhere in Halswell to the Market in about 15 minutes and likewise you can bike from Wigram, Spreydon, Hoon Hay, Rowley and Hillmorton in the same time.  Check out a map and stay on quiet streets for much or all of your trip.

Parking is available in the grounds of Aidanfield School for a gold coin donation, and free on Aidanfield Drive and nearby streets.  There is limited disability parking only in the grounds of St John of God.

We recommend a gazebo or some form of shade that can be anchored due to the strong winds that occasionaly blow.

You will need to provide your own power requirements eg: gas or silent generator.

A huge thanks to the generosity of the Rata Foundation and the Christchurch City Council.

Due to their funding we have been successful in gaining consent to run our markets in the coming years.
